Fund set up to improve study of seismology

    BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- A fund has been set up to improve the study of seismology and attract talent to the field, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NNSFC) said Tuesday.

    The fund will run from 2018 to 2022 and will receive 150 million yuan (about 22.9 million U.S. dollars) in funding from the NNSFC and China Earthquake Administration.

    The fund will encourage research on the causes of earthquake as well as the theories, technologies and methods concerning the monitoring and prediction of earthquakes to allow the development of early warning abilities, said Yang Wei, NNSFC director.
