KORLA, Xinjiang - Local residents are being evacuated from areas along the lower reaches of a local river as it suddenly overflowed at around zero hour Friday in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
No casualties are reported so far.
Rising water of the Dujuan river, which lies in the outskirts of the city of Korla, inundated a farm and residences, according to the local fire brigade.
Local farmer Guo Haikui said flood water rose to about 1 meter in depth within 40 minutes.
"My house collapsed soon after I ran out, and I also saw my neighbors' houses fall down," he said.
At least 100 people have been relocated to safe places.
