GUIYANG, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- A big celebration for ethnic groups from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan was held on Monday to mark the Mid-Autumn Festival in Guiyang, the host city of the 9th Chinese National Ethnic Games.

A total of some 500 representatives from all the 34 participating delegations in the on-going Ethnic Games as well as observing delegations from China's Hong Kong and Macao attended the annual celebrating event to enjoy the bright moonlight and Chinese traditional moon cakes.

Actors and actresses from all delegations staged a wonderful performance while dressing up in exotic and picturesque costumes to add to the carnival atmosphere.

The celebration event was hosted by the Nationalities Unity and Progress Association of China (NUPAC) under the Chinese State Ethnic Affairs Commission (SEAC).

There are 34 delegations from various Chinese provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, the Chinese army PLA and Taiwan taking part in the nine-day quadrennial sports and culture gala.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a popular harvest festival celebrated by more than twenty Chinese nationalities including Han, Zhuang, Manchu, Korean, Miao and Gaoshan. It is a time for family reunion, enjoying the traditional Chinese food of "moon cakes" and admiring the bright mid-autumn harvest moon, when the moon is at its fullest and roundest.
