Luo Gan, Chief of the Central Committee Deputy Delegation, Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Committee, called on division cadres and visited the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) on September 28.
Formed in 1954, the XPCC now consists of more than 2 million cadres and workers from all ethnic minority groups. All farms are situated at the edge of the desert, south and north of the Tianshan Mountain, and along the border. For more than 50 years, the Corps has made agricultural modernization its foundation; and simultaneously developed industry and business. It also enhanced the development of science and education; and became the major force behind promoting the stability and development of Xinjiang.
Luo Gan stressed that the first 20 years of this century will be an important period of time for bringing China, including Xinjiang, strategic opportunities to accelerate development. The XPCC must take advantage of these opportunities to vigorously promote development; and carry out a “hard working, pioneering and unrelenting” spirit. In addition, the XPCC should continue its efforts to take the lead in promoting production, ecological improvement, and the construction of a harmonious society.
