Communities both new and old are now equipped with intelligent management systems in Urumqi, located in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

The intelligent management systems are able to recognize cars as soon as they enter a community and, upon a car's entrance, will issue instructions to the driver telling them where to park. The system ensures that cars are parked in an orderly fashion and roads remain unobstructed.

More than 200 people in the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe district) regularly provide photos and other information pertaining to the protection of the local environment, which is then seen by relevant departments and addressed properly. The district has established an efficient system for environmental supervision and handles more than 400 pieces of information every day through their online platform. The public satisfaction rate is extremely high at 95 percent.

It is estimated that by the end of 2018 Urumqi will complete construction on four systems: a security/infrastructure system, a smart construction system, a smart management and service system, and a smart industry and economy system. From buying vegetables online to intelligent parking, intelligent management provides residents with more convenient services.

With a smartphone app known as "Versatile Man", maintenance personnel can be sent to households within ten minutes to provide maintenance services on a variety of tasks. According to Zhao Yang, regional manager of the app, the company currently offers online maintenance service in more than 100 communities in the city. Within three minutes of placing an order, users receive a phone call confirming the personnel's time of arrival.

Additionally, Urumqi's smart city public information service platform brings an array of applications that can be used in areas such as environmental protection, emergency management, intelligent logistics, and intelligent commerce.
