Chinese senior official meets chairperson of Japan's Nikkei media group

BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Wang Chen, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met with Tsuneo Kita, chairperson of Japan's Nikkei media group, on Wednesday,vowing to promote the healthy development of China-Japan relations.

Wang said China attaches great importance to relations with Japan, and bilateral ties currently showed momentum of improvement.

He called on the two countries to meet each other halfway so as to jointly safeguard the political basis of relations between China and Japan.

The NPC stands ready to strengthen exchanges with all sectors of Japanese society and make contributions to promote the healthy development of China-Japan relations, he said, adding that he hopes Nikkei can play an active role in enhancing public support for bilateral ties.

Kita said Nikkei has committed itself to promoting friendly exchanges between the peoples of the two countries, and will provide more news coverage on China's economic development.
