Jilin teachers volunteer to teach in Xinjiang

A total of 125 volunteer teachers from Northeast China's Jilin province left their hometowns on Aug 20 for Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to support local education.

"I'm looking forward to the volunteering experience in Xinjiang," said Zhang Yubo, a teacher from Yangguang Primary School in Jilin's Baishan city. "We will try our best to bring professional knowledge, cutting-edge facilities and our loving hearts for education to Western China."

A large-scale volunteer-teacher program was launched in 2017 for supporting education in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and Tibet autonomous region. The first batch of 4,000 volunteer teachers are now in position, while the total number of teachers to be involved in the program is expected to reach up to 10,000 in the coming years.
