With a focus on the innovative design of Chinese traditional crafts, the design biennale aims to strengthen Chinese design, study the outstanding traditional crafts of the provinces along the Silk Road Economic Belt, and promote their continuation and evolution.

The design biennale has also provided a platform for exchange between western institutions and has laid the foundation for more extensive cooperation and exchange in the future.

The 500 works of the design biennale were selected from among more than 10,000 works submitted by 23 countries and regions, including Italy, France, South Korea and Kazakhstan, as well as more than 2,000 universities in China.

The 2018 Silk Road Spirit Western China International Design Biennale was funded by the National Art Fund Exchange Promotion Project of the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism and is an influential and professional design exhibition designed to promote the Belt and Road Initiative.

It is hoped that the design biennale will strengthen western design and lead to the creation of new craft products.
