Belarusian economy up 3 pct in 2018

MINSK, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Belarus' gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 3 percent year on year in 2018, the National Statistical Committee said Thursday.

The country's GDP volume in current prices amounted to 121.6 billion Belarusian rubles (56 billion U.S. dollars), increasing by 3 percent compared to 2017, the committee said.

In 2018, the country's GDP growth was on a downward trajectory: 5.1 percent in the first quarter, 4.5 percent in the first half, 3.7 percent in the first three quarters.

Thursday's data was lower than the Belarusian authorities' earlier prediction that GDP growth in 2018 would be 3.5 percent.
