Tokyo stocks open higher as tech shares, exporters advance

TOKYO, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday with tech-related issues finding early favor following the Nasdaq's overnight rise, while a weaker yen against the U.S. dollar gave exporters a boost.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 72.39 points, or 0.33 percent, from Tuesday to 22,294.05.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 5.57 points, or 0.34 percent, at 1,632.03.

Mining, transportation equipment and electric appliance-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
