Tokyo stocks flat in morning, solid Chinese stocks add support

TOKYO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were flat Wednesday morning in choppy trade with a rise in Chinese stocks supporting buying, while weak earnings by Japanese firms recently prompted selling.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 15.99 points, or 0.08 percent, from Tuesday to 21,051.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged 0.47 point, or 0.03 percent, lower to 1,534.51.

Real estate, and textile and apparel issues led notable gainers, while pharmaceutical and iron and steel issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
