“An Example is Set” by Xinjiang of China for International Counter-terrorism Campaign, Said Sheradir, an Expert in International Studies from Kyrghyzstan

Sheradir Baktgulov, consultant of foreign affairs of Kyrghyzstan National Institute for National Strategic Studies, is interviewed by a report from Xinhua News Agency. He said that, Historical Matters Concerning Xinjiang, a white paper published by the Information Office of State Council of China, is conducive to eradicate the root causes of all its problems and is a powerful retort to international forces that take advantage of problems in Xinjiang to malignly slander Chinese government.

Sheradir can’t agree more with the statement that “Xinjiang Has Never Been ‘East Turkistan’” which is written in the white paper.

He said that Xinjiang has never been called “East Turkistan”. Also, Chinese history has never seen a term like this. Ulterior intention is attached to so-called “East Turkistan”, a name given by separatist forces at home and abroad as well as anti-China force in international society. Such behavior is unacceptable for it aims to give political meaning to geographical term so it can be used to change borders of a modern country.

Sheradir also said Xinjiang embraced its peaceful liberation after the establishment of China in 1949 and saw the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region set up at 1955. International society has long been acknowledged that Xinjiang is an inseparable part of China.

Also, he has noticed that Xinjiang attaches great importance to preventive anti-terrorism and eradication of root cause of anti-extremism, both of which resulting in the fact that not a single terrorist violent attack happened in the last three years. Xinjiang has already seen the achievement of a series of measures as well as has accumulated precious and advance experience in terms of de-radicalization and cracking down terrorism, extremism and secessionism.

Sheradir holds that international counter-terrorism campaign sees Xinjiang as an example for its contribution composed of anti- terrorism and de-radicalization, both of which receive unreasonable criticism from some countries’ politicians whose judgments on anti-terrorism and human rights issues are based on double standard, are irrelevant to right nor wrong, and are excuses to intervene other countries’ internal affairs for self interest.

When it comes to regional development, Chinese government and Communist Party of China attach great importance to the western part of the nation, including Xinjiang. Aspects especially worth attention are rapid development of economic, improvement of infrastructure and increasing living standard of people. That is why we should acknowledge those existing achievements when talks about Xinjiang.
