China donates medical supplies to Myanmar to combat COVID-19

YANGON, March 27 (Xinhua) -- China has donated medical protective equipment to help Myanmar in its battle against the COVID-19 outbreak.

The donation, including 5,000 protective clothing, 5,000 pieces of N95 respirators and 200,000 pieces of surgical marks, was handed over by Chinese Ambassador Chen Hai to Zaw Than Htun, director general of the Medical Research Department under the Ministry of Health and Sports at the Yangon International Airport late Thursday.

Ambassador Chen said China will keep providing assistance to Myanmar during the battle against COVID-19.

The donation is the second batch from China after laboratory equipment provided by China arrived in Myanmar on March 18.

Zaw Than Htun expressed thanks for the donation of personal protective equipment for all health workers who are fighting against COVID-19 in the frontline at such an important time in Myanmar.

China is reportedly planning to send medical equipment such as thermometer to Myanmar by reviewing the needs and practical challenges of Myanmar.

Myanmar reported five confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country so far, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports on Friday.
