Flocks of argalis reappear on the Pamir Plateau

Xinjiang Daily news (Reporter Han Qinyan): With the strengthening of ecological protection of the Pamir Plateau, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the forest in Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County gradually expands, the living environment of wild animals improves, and flocks of argalis reappear on the Pamir Plateau.

Taxkorgan is located at the intersection of the Tianshan Mountains, the Kunlun Mountains, the Karakoram Mountains and the Himalaya Mountains, where glaciers and snow-capped mountains extend, and the ecological environment of which is relatively fragile.

Taxkorgan County has been dedicated to returning grazing land to grassland, of which the biodiversity has been restored and the ecological functions such as wind prevention and sand fixation, water storage and soil conservation, air purification, have all been continuously improved. Since 2018, Taxkorgan County has invested a total of more than 45 million RMB yuan for remediation of geological environments of the wild animal nature reserve.

After years of continuous management, the vegetation of Taxkorgan has been restored, the ecological environment has improved, poaching has been completely curbed, the population of plateau animals has increased significantly.
