PURWAKARTA, Indonesia, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The construction of an under-line main structure of a super large bridge for the China-built Jakarta-Bandung high-speed-railway (HSR) in Indonesia's West Java province was completed on Wednesday.

As many as 87 piers and abutments and one continuous beam of under-line main structure of the whole bridge were totally completed, pushing project construction from bottom structure to the upper structure construction and transformation to the key stage of box girder erection process.

The bridge at the DK655 project site, situated in Purwakarta regency, was constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 7 Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of state-owned hydropower project contractor Power Construction Corporation of China.

The super large bridge at the DK655 has a total length of 2,819 meters crossing the Citarum River, the longest and largest river in West Java.

The development of the Jakarta-Bandung HSR project is continuing to advance amid the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia following changes in safety and health procedures at the construction sites.

The 142.3-km long Jakarta-Bandung HSR project launched in 2016 will connect the country's capital of Jakarta and West Java province's capital of Bandung.

The high-speed trains expected to run at a designed speed of 350 km per hour will be the first of its kind in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

The traveling time from Jakarta to Bandung will be reduced from more than three hours to just about 40 minutes, in the hope it will greatly help spur economic activities along the line between the two cities.
