Ancient Great Wall under repair in north China

HOHHOT, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Authorities are repairing many sections of an ancient Great Wall in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The sections were part of the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234) Great Wall that spans more than 5,000 km, with 469 km located in the city of Ulanqab. The ancient wall was built as a military fortification. Over the centuries, it was affected by geology, climate and human activities, leading to decay.

This year, authorities in Ulanqab are repairing different sections of the wall, in addition to setting up markers to help with protection. Farmers and herders often patrol the Great Wall to prevent damage to the structure.
