WCBA Roundup: Sichuan defeats Hebei, Xinjiang thrashes Daqing.

CHENGDU, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Sichuan beat Hebei 103-73 with three straight wins and Xinjiang easily cruised past Daqing 111-52 in the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league here on Tuesday.

"Regardless of the score, both sides played a great game. We came into this match with intention and goals, but failed on some of them," admitted Sichuan coach Pan Wei.

Sichuan showed its great defense as they forced Hebei to shoot just 23 of 59. Good defense helped Sichuan build a 27-18 advantage.

Sichuan then seized control of the game. Xiao Tong's layup helped Sichuan enlarge the gap to more than 30 points and lead Hebei to a four-match match losing streak.

"Our players executed something today, and both teams showed intensity in defense," Hebei coach Ma Tao commented.

Gao Song collected a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Shao Ting scored 14 points and Fang Zhuoya added 15 points for Sichuan.

Hebei's Guo Zixuan converted 13 of 14 free throws to score a game-high 39 points.

Due to a big gap separating the two sides, Xinjiang rested its star backcourt duo of Wang Siyu and Wang Lili, and gave quite a few minutes to starters such as Han Xu and Wu Di.

Xinjiang rushed earlier in the first quarter to lead by 31-20 and they kicked off the second quarter with a 14-0 run. They didn't stop scoring from there, and enlarged their advantage to 45 points, leading 86-41 into the final quarter, which turned out to be garbage time.

Chen Mingling posted a double-double of 26 points and 14 boards, while Zhu Meiqi helped with 17. Han finished with eight points and six rebounds in seven minutes of play.

"We gave more chances to young players, and they did well today," Xinjiang coach Gao Fengjuan noted.

Also on Tuesday, with Cheng Qi scoring a career-high 31 points and 11 rebounds, Henan defeated Wuhan 73-59.
