All-round and whole-process agricultural mechanization in Xinjiang

Xinjiang Daily news (Reporter Liu Yi): Since the "13th Five-Year Plan", Xinjiang has been continuing to promote the whole-process mechanization of grain and cotton production and the all-round mechanization of characteristic and advantageous industries such as animal husbandry, forestry fruit and facility agriculture, aiming to continuously improve the comprehensive benefits of agriculture. From 2016 to 2019, the total power of agricultural machinery in Xinjiang increased from 20,625,700 kilowatts to 22,768,800 kilowatts, and the comprehensive mechanization of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery increased from 66.04% to 68.57%. Mechanization has become an important foundation and support for the development of modern agriculture in Xinjiang.

The mechanized harvest area of cotton, a traditional advantageous agricultural product in Xinjiang, has grown rapidly at an average annual rate of over one million mus (one mu equals to 0.067 hectare) during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period. From 2016 to 2019, the mechanized harvest area of cotton increased significantly from 4,862,300 mus to 14.15 million mus, the total number of cotton harvesting machines increased from 1,145 to 2,356, and the mechanized harvest rate increased from 20.71% to 53.91%.

During this process, Xinjiang implemented the national allowance for purchasing agricultural machinery, given priority to the fund needs of the four prefectures in southern Xinjiang, vigorously promoted advanced, applicable, efficient, intelligent and green agricultural machinery, optimized agricultural machinery equipment structure.

During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the scientific and technological innovation of agricultural mechanization also made new progress. According to incomplete statistics, up to now, more than 10,000 sets of agricultural equipment in Xinjiang use Beidou navigation services, the number of plant drones exceeds 5,000, the area of drone operation exceeds 20 million mus (one mu equals to 0.067 hectare).
