Onuegbu lifts Xinjiang over Heilongjiang in China League One

SUZHOU, China, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Kingsley Onuegbu contributed one goal and one assist to help Xinjiang Tianshan Leapords beat Heilongjiang Lava Spring 3-2 in the first leg of relegation battle of the 2020 China League One on Tuesday.

Onuegbu and local midfielder Danyar Musajan shone throughout, with the former having a header in the 21st minute to give Xinjiang a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes into the second half, Danyar slotted in after Onuegbu clipped against the post from a corner, giving Xinjiang a well-deserved halftime lead.

Heilongjiang found their rhythm in the second half, pulling one back in the 47th minute when substitute Donovan Ewolo fired into the net.

Xinjiang extended their lead on 76 minutes when Onuegbu got behind Heilongjiang's defense again to cross Bienvenue Kanakimana and score on an open goal, but then conceded a late goal from Heilongjiang Li Shuai.

The second leg will be played on Nov. 20, with the losing side on aggregate relegated to the China League Two, the third-tier football league.
