Brunei to launch China Day cultural carnival to promote bilateral exchanges

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Brunei will hold its first-ever China Day cultural carnival as part of the Brunei December Festival as well as an important event of the Brunei-China Year of Tourism 2020.

China Day will be launched on Dec. 26 and open to the public for two days, Wang Haitao, counselor of the Chinese embassy in Brunei, said at a press conference on Thursday.

The event is hosted by the Chinese embassy, supported by Brunei's Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, and organized by Brunei-China Friendship Association.

"There will be live performances of Chinese martial arts and traditional songs and dances, as well as on-site interaction and hands-on experiences of Chinese traditional culture such as tea ceremony, Chinese chess, calligraphy and ping-pong. We also offer tasting of Chinese delicacies," Wang said.

"We hope that China Day can provide an opportunity for Bruneian public to experience Chinese cultures close-up and to promote the friendly exchanges between our two peoples, despite the COVID-19 epidemic that's keeping everyone from traveling abroad," he added.
