On May 3, at the cold-water fish theme park in Wenquan County, northwest China’s Xinjiang, tourists watched various cold-water fish such as coregonus peled, golden trout and rainbow trout, and their different-age appearances.

"Wenquan County is rich in spring water, has unique conditions for the breeding of cold-water fish. In 2020, Wenquan County invested more than 40 million yuan in the construction of the first cold-water fish theme park in Xinjiang based on the cold-water fish breeding center." Gao Xinxin, head of Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau of Wenquan County introduced that the first phase of the construction of the cold-water fish theme park has been completed, new tourist center, landscape pools and wooden trestle roads have been built, and the infrastructure of the breeding center has been upgraded. In 2021, the second phase of the construction will be started, mainly on upgrading the cold-water fish culture center.

“The main facilities of cold-water fish culture center are divided into stuffed cold-water fish exhibition hall and cold-water fish breeding farm. When the center is completed, tourists will be able to learn the breeding process of the cold-water fish, from fertilized eggs to hatching, seedling raising, releasing and developing”. Said Bi Fuxiang, director of improved cold-water fish breeding center of Wenquan County, northwest China’s Xinjiang.

“The characteristic cold-water fish culture can promote the integration of cold water fish industry and tourism in Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture and expand the new industrial income space". Gao Xinxin said, the county plans to invest 35 million yuan in June to build a rural revitalization training center at the cold-water fish theme park and regular free training of cold-water fish breeding and cooking techniques will be offered to increase the income of farmers and herdsmen of the cold-water fish industry.

The improved cold-water fish breeding center of Wenquan County takes the important cold-water fish breeding task of Sayram Lake, as well as inside and outside of Xinjiang, with annual production of 3.5 billion salmon and bulltrout fertilized eggs, and more than 50 million juveniles. The center, as the national coregonus peled protection and breeding center, embraces domestic first-class facilities, production scale and technology of improved coregonus breeding, which breeds 1.4 million coregonus seedlings for the market inside and outside of Xinjiang.
