Machinery, cold-chain assist summer harvest in China's Xinjiang

URUMQI, Aug. 7 (XINHUA) --As the harvest season has begun in China's Xinjiang, machinery and cold-chain have improved the efficiency and quality of corps.

In Shawan City, one of Xinjiang's major agricultural cities, 8,000 mu (536 hectare) of tomatoes are ripe for picking.

The mechanized harvesting rate of major crops in Shawan has reached 97.5 percent.

The intelligent tomato picker machines can automatically identify the maturity of the fruit to achieve accurate harvest.

Hami melon is another popular specialty in Xinjiang.

Farmers usually harvest the Hami melons in the early morning, packing and loading the fruits in the field. Then the sweet cantaloupe will be transported via cold-chain logistics to different cities across the country.
