On September 17, 2021, when entering into the lotus root planting base in Bohu County, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China’s Xinjiang, one can see farmers are busy picking lotus roots. Fresh and brittle lotus roots in rows surface and spread over the lotus pond. Many merchants come here to purchase bags of the just-washed fresh lotus roots.

In recent years, in adoption of measures according to local conditions and characteristics, Bohu county has contracted professional planters to plant shallow-water ecological lotus roots around the Bosten Lake, developed lotus root-shrimp symbiotic culture, and built a modern agricultural demonstration park integrated with lotus root planting, sightseeing and picking, serving as a way to promote the primary, secondary and tertiary industries, and to facilitate the rural revitalization.
