GLOBALink | Relocated villagers in Xinjiang enjoy warm, comfy winter with access to power grid

URUMQI, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- New Daliyabuyi Village is located in Xinjiang's Taklimakan Desert.

The village was built two years ago when a relocation project was launched to move the locals to a more habitable place with new homes and modern facilities.

Now, all the 200 households in the village connect to the power grid that provides them with clean and convenient power supply.

Power maintenance workers have been visiting the villagers to ensure the power connection at their homes works fine and their safe use of electricity.

The old Daliyabuyi village was deep in the Taklimakan Desert.

Villagers had no access to roads, tap water, and the national power grid.

The new village not only provides the residents with all that, but also has kindergarten, primary school, clinic, and community service center.

Xinjiang bid farewell to absolute poverty a year ago when its last 10 impoverished counties were lifted out of absolute poverty.
