Dutch women's team coach fired after disappointing Euro 2022

THE HAGUE, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Dutch football association KNVB fired national women's head coach Mark Parsons on Wednesday after a disappointing European Championship.

36-year-old Parsons had only served in the role for one year. At Euro 2022 last month, the Netherlands was eliminated in the quarterfinals by France.

The KNVB reports that an evaluation took place after the Euros. "This showed that there is too little confidence that the ambitions will be realized under the current leadership," the KNVB stated.

Parsons succeeded the extremely successful Sarina Wiegman in 2021. Under Wiegman, the team became European champion in 2017 in the Netherlands. In 2019, the Netherlands lost the World Cup final to the United States. Wiegman subsequently led England to its first women's title at Euro 2022 last month.
