Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.31 percent to 3,265.75 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.61 percent higher at 11,496.93 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 957.85 billion yuan (about 139.39 billion U.S. dollars), up from 893 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to ChatGPT led the gains, while stocks in the photoresist sector suffered losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.2 percent to close at 2,341.92 points Wednesday.
