Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Zhou Peng) news: In the early morning of June 4, 2024, the reporter departed from Liuyuan Town in Aksu City, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and drove towards the depths of the Taklimakan desert. They drove in the vast desert for nearly three hours, encountering a large lake with rippling blue waves, white sand, and many waterfowl. The strong contrast makes them marvel at the magic of nature.

The desertified land area of Aksu Prefecture is 98,800 square kilometers, accounting for 78.77 percent of the prefecture’s total area. The ecological environment is extremely fragile, and it is an important place to prevent and control desertification on the edge of the Hexi Corridor to the Taklimakan desert. In recent years, Aksu Prefecture has prepared a 10-year plan for the medium- and long-term development of prevention and control desertification from 2021 to 2030. Through seven modes, including the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program, grassland ecological protection and restoration projects, photovoltaic sand control, and sand-fixation engineering projects, the task of preventing and controlling desertification has been steadily promoted, and the local ecological environment has been greatly improved.
