From two trains per week at the beginning to over ten trains per week, and now to a stable average of more than one train per day, Xinjiang's Tianshan freight train has transported a cumulative total of 250,000 tons of goods and driven import and export trade valued at 7.4 billion yuan (about 1 billion U.S dollars) since the beginning of this year. This is a powerful testament to Xinjiang's deep integration into the Belt and Road Initiative, its continuous efforts to deepen interconnectivity, densify economic and trade networks, and promote the development of an open economy.
The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) proposed that opening-up is a distinctive feature of Chinese-style modernization. Xinjiang's Tianshan freight train has left an increasing number of tracks.
Zaowuzha Halisai, the comprehensive planning supervisor of the Train Department of Xinjiang International Land Port (Group) Co., Ltd., introduced that, in June, 2024, Tianshan freight train bound for Moscow was successfully launched, and now it has become a regular transport route. "Today, the Tianshan freight train can be seen not only in the five Central Asian countries, but also in Europe. The logistics network is becoming denser and the train routes are reaching farther and farther."
As the organizer and operator of the Tianshan freight train, Xinjiang International Land Port (Group) Co., Ltd. has successively established and put into use the "Xinjiang Land Port Tianshan freight train" WeChat Mini Program and the "Xinzhigang" Xinjiang International Land Port Comprehensive Service Management System Platform this year, providing customers with integrated services such as train booking, fee inquiry, transaction settlement, and more. Since its launch in May, the "Xinzhigang" platform has served hundreds of customers with over 4,000 bookings.
Since June, Xinjiang International Land Port (Group) Co., Ltd. has fully implemented the "Railway Express" mode for customers of Tianshan freight trains. This mode utilizes technological monitoring equipment and information systems to achieve an enhanced customs clearance efficiency, thereby shortening the time required for cargo clearance at ports and improving logistics efficiency. As of July 30, nearly 2,300 shipments have been dispatched using the "Railway Express" mode, accounting for 86.3 percent of the month's total shipments, representing a 32.8 percent increase compared to the same period in June.
"Trade supports logistics, and industries support trade," said Zaowuzha Halisai, expressing the intention to drive the Tianshan freight train to carry more Xinjiang products out of the country and to every corner of the world at a faster speed, lower cost, and with better service, thereby establishing a new trade corridor that shares opportunities and achieves win-win development.
