Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Du Jianhui) news: On October 28, 2024, the scenery of the Taitema Lake, which is located at the end of the Tarim River, was splendid, with swaying reeds complementing the blue sky and desert. Water birds such as egrets and wild ducks played happily in the lake, while wild boars leisurely searched food by the lake.

Taitema Lake is located in Ruoqiang County, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and is the tail-end-lake of the Tarim River and the Che'erchen River in Qiemo County. The continuous management of the Tarim River Basin for many years has revitalized Taitema Lake after 30 years.
In 2024, Xinjiang organized and implemented the 25th Tarim River ecological water transfer project. In mid-September, the water reached the Taitema Lake, and the entire course of the Tarim River was once again full of water. This measure greatly optimized the downstream ecological environment, making the vegetation of Taitema Lake wetland more lush. Some drought tolerant and salt tolerant shrubs have been able to grow, adding ecological diversity to the surrounding area of Taitema Lake and playing a positive role in stabilizing the lakeshore ecosystem.

The ecological environment has improved, and wild ducks, wild boars, and other animals are frequently appearing,” Chen Shun, who is working in the first phase of the Taitema Lake wind and sand source ecological governance project in Ruoqiang County, said. Two years ago, this area was still a desert with no vegetation. A total of 187 hectares sacsaoul seedlings planted last year have now grown to a height of one meter, and now wild rabbits have also appeared frequently.
Taitema Lake, located in the desert, has become a warm home for waterbirds and wildlife.
