Cross-border passenger traffic in Dulata Port sees a 71.54 pct Yoy increase

Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Song Weiguo) news: On June 19, 2025, the Dulataa Immigration Border Inspection Station reported that as of June 15, the port had processed a total of 54,000 inbound and outbound passengers this year, a 71.54 percent increase compared to the same period last year, setting a new record.

The same day, the team of "Xinjiang on the frontier" large-scale media tour celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region visited the Dulataa Port. At the inspection lanes, trucks arriving from Kazakhstan lining up in an orderly fashion for entry clearance. Despite the weather forecast indicating a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius, the actual temperature in the area surpassed 40 degrees due to heat emitted by the vehicles and other factors.

Dulata Port is a key national land port open to third countries. Located just 2.8 kilometers from Kazakhstan's Horgos Port, its strategic position and efficient transport links make it a preferred exit point for many import and export businesses.

As cross-border vehicle and cargo traffic continues to rise, Dulata Port secured 55.72 million yuan(about 7.70 million U.S. dollars) in Xinjiang development funds in 2024 to upgrade its infrastructure. The port expanded its restricted area from two lanes (one entry, one exit) to eight lanes (three entry, five exit). It also widened immigration inspection lanes, upgraded electronic checkpoints, and improved outdoor facilities such as power supply systems to enhance international trade capacity.

To handle increasing traffic, the Dulata Port Administration has coordinated with customs and other agencies to streamline operations. Export clearance procedures were cut from 12 steps to four, while average processing times dropped from 20 to 12 minutes for entry and from eight to five minutes for exit. Passenger clearance efficiency improved by 30 percent, with the port now processing up to three outbound travelers per minute.

"To meet the growing demand for cross-border passenger and vehicle traffic, Dulata Immigration and Border Checkpoint has adopted new measures to streamline clearance processes and boost efficiency," said Ling Tao, the checkpoint's deputy director. The checkpoint now allows cross-border transport registration without official stamps, significantly easing procedures for international bus drivers. It also offers end-to-end clearance services, including appointment-based inspections, extended hours during peak periods, emergency support, and fast-track lanes for "hazardous chemicals" and "special vehicles."

Through cooperation with Kazakh border authorities under a bilateral exchange mechanism, the checkpoint has introduced dedicated cargo lanes for large shipments to speed up bulk commodity clearance. Additional improvements include dedicated rest areas for travelers and separate waiting zones for buses and private vehicles, all designed to reduce processing times.
