US vice mayor impressed by Karez wells in Turpan, NW China's Xinjiang

Invited by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Committee, 23 representatives from the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation and entrepreneurs, as well as 70 teachers and students from seven U.S. states, including California, Pennsylvania, and New York, visited Xinjiang from July 21 to 23, 2025.

Erik Lutz, vice mayor of the U.S. city Pico Rivera, was impressed by the ancient engineering of the Karez Wells in Turpan during his visit. He noted that these channels not only bring life and vitality to the ancient city but also offer insights into the ingenuity of past civilizations and the vital role of water in urban development. The visit provided an insightful look into historical water management practices and their lasting impact.
