The Gazella subgutturosa is under second-class state protection in China.This species inhabits arid desert and semi-desert regions at elevations ranging from 300 to 6,000 meters above sea level. These animals are primarily active in daylight, usually gathering in small herds of a few to dozens, and are skilled at running. They primarily feed on grass and other plants, and are distributed across the desert plains of both northern and southern Xinjiang.
