On the evening of November 7, 2025, the 31st Minsk International Film Festival Listapad came to a successful conclusion in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. The film Bazaar Joy, produced with great effort by Tianshan Film Studio, stood out from 3,760 works submitted by 120 countries and regions worldwide. Not only did it become the sole Chinese film to be shortlisted for the main competition section, but it also clinched the Special Jury Prize. Previously, this film had already won the Best Music Award of Jinshancha (Golden Camellia) Awards at the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival. This latest international accolade not only highlights the film's outstanding artistic quality and unique cultural charm but also underscores the strong competitiveness of Xinjiang-themed films on the international stage.
Bazaar Joy is a heartwarming film that focuses on the local customs and contemporary folk life in Xinjiang, China. Set against the backdrop of the ancient city of Kashi, the film uses two musical instruments, a dutar and a pipa, each with a 300-year history, as narrative threads. Through vivid characters and engaging storylines, it weaves together the dream-chasing journeys and harmonious lives of people from various ethnic groups in Xinjiang, vividly reflecting the era of ethnic unity and progress, vibrant economic and social development, and continuous improvement in people's livelihoods in the region.
During the film festival, a three-member delegation from Tianshan Film Studio arrived in Minsk and actively participated in a series of events. At the opening ceremony, the delegation meticulously arranged promotional display boards for Bazaar Joy and The Little Horsewhip, introducing Xinjiang-themed films to guests from various countries and sparking widespread attention and acclaim among international filmmakers.
In addition, the delegation actively advanced international cooperation. On November 1, 2025, the delegation held a meeting with leaders responsible for film distribution and screening in Belarus, reaching a preliminary agreement on the distribution and screening of Bazaar Joy in Belarus and other Russian-speaking regions. Belarus expressed its willingness to visit and learn from Tianshan Film Studio's advanced cinema facilities and screening equipment. On the same day, the delegation also toured the Belarusian National Film Studio, engaging in in-depth discussions with its leaders on topics such as film co-production and film and television services. Both sides agreed to jointly create films themed around the Belt and Road Initiative when conditions were favorable, deepening film cooperation and cultural exchanges among SCO member countries.
