The Urumqi Tianshan International Airport handled 94,000 transit flights with simplified check-in procedure in the third quarter of 2025, ranking first among Chinese airports, according to statistics by the Settlement Center of the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
Over 321,000 passengers traveled on these transit flights passing the Urumqi airport, also the highest figure nationwide, the statistics showed.
Taking these transit flights, passengers only check in at the departure airport, transfer directly to a connecting flight at the Urumqi airport, and claim their luggage at the destination airport. Without the simplified service procedure, passengers have to claim their luggage and check in for a second time at the transit airport.
In response to the travel patterns of passengers during the peak season of ice and snow tourism in Xinjiang, the airport has enhanced its ski equipment free-handling service. Passengers can make advance reservations via the "Zhongzhuantong" mini-program and, during their transfer, benefit from dedicated staff for ski equipment loading and unloading, as well as priority transfer assistance, without the need to manage ski gear logistics independently.
This service enhancement not only addresses the practical demands of Xinjiang's ice and snow tourism market but also reinforces the airport's commitment to great service, delivering a more efficient and seamless transfer experience for skiing enthusiasts traveling to Xinjiang.
