The black stork is a large wading bird, classified as an endangered species globally and a first-class protected wildlife in China. In Xinjiang, it is primarily found in the Altai Mountains and their foothills, Tianshan Mountains, Tacheng Basin, Junggar Basin, Pamir Plateau, Tarim Basin, Turpan Basin, and other regions.
