Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Fan Qiongyan) news: In the heart of Yang Jie, a professor from the College of Life Science and Technology at Xinjiang University, Hu Hongying is one of the few people she deeply admires. "She often ventures into deserts, plateaus and even inaccessible uninhabited areas, just to put forward well-substantiated suggestions on ecological protection and green pest control in agriculture and forestry," Yang said, her words filled with respect for her colleague.

Hu Hongying is a member of the 13th Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and a professor at the College of Life Science and Technology of Xinjiang University. Her voice is soft yet powerful, and her clear tone hides an unyielding perseverance, mirroring her gentle yet firm personality. Since becoming a member of the CPPCC Xinjiang Committee, her footprint has covered all parts of Xinjiang. She has always adhered to the original aspiration of "seeking truth through research and solving people's worries with proposals," and has written a fulfilling report on her duties with professionalism in fields such as ecological protection, green agricultural development and university hospital construction in Xinjiang.
Yang and Hu are not only colleagues but also close friends. She said that Hu has been engaged in entomological research for decades and has achieved remarkable results in the field of natural enemy insect resource protection and biological pest control in agriculture. Whether in teaching or performing her duties, she maintains an extreme sense of professionalism and keeps moving forward. She has gone deep into uninhabited areas, such as the Altun Mountains, deserts in northern and southern Xinjiang, the Pamir Plateau and the Karlik Glacier, to collect basic data for the protection of wild animal and plant resources and put forward many suggestions for ecological protection.
Beyond teaching, Hu remains busy on the frontlines of scientific research and duty performance, leading or participating in several major national and regional scientific research projects. She has led her team to conduct systematic surveys on major pests and their natural enemies of characteristic agricultural and forestry crops such as Nitraria tangutorum, cotton, Haloxylon ammodendron and Picea schrenkiana in northern and southern Xinjiang. She repeatedly inspected pest-infested sites, carefully recorded pest habits, damages, as well as the resources, distribution and biological characteristics of natural enemy insects, took the lead in analyzing pest control difficulties, and compiled detailed research notes.
As a member of the CPPCC Xinjiang Committee, to promote green agricultural development, Hu has invested great efforts in researching natural enemy insects and green pest control in agriculture and forestry. She has advocated and popularized the exploration, protection and utilization of natural enemy insect resources at national and local academic conferences, the BRI international training programs and among the members of the CPPCC Xinjiang Committee. She suggested that based on Xinjiang's unique natural resource endowments and rich biodiversity advantages, it should strengthen scientific research cooperation on biological resources in extreme environments and their stress resistance mechanisms, establish a biological resource bank in inland arid areas, and build a leading zone for characteristic bio-agriculture along the Silk Road. Meanwhile, a win-win international cooperation mechanism for the development and utilization of biological resources should be established to benefit more people with scientific research achievements.
"She always cares about her students, not only their academic growth but also their physical and mental health," said Zhulidezi Aishan, a professor at the college who was once Hu's student and is now her colleague. In Zhulidezi's eyes, Hu is strict and rigorous in teaching and a gentle guide in life. Distressed by the inconvenience students faced in seeking medical treatment at the university hospital, where even injections and infusions required going to community hospitals off-campus, she recently visited student dormitories and wandered around the campus, patiently listening to students' demands and carefully recording problems to prepare suggestions on university hospital construction for submission at the regional "two sessions".
In this proposal, Hu put forward measures to strengthen the construction of medical talent teams in university hospitals to make up for talent shortages, improve medical service platforms and upgrade medical equipment, and enhance digital service capabilities to integrate into smart campus construction. She emphasized that university hospital construction should be student-centered, enabling students to enjoy convenient and high-quality medical services without worries.
On the road of performing her duties, her original aspiration remains unwavering. When talking about her biggest feeling since becoming a member of the CPPCC Xinjiang Committee, Hu said firmly, "In the past, I focused solely on teaching and scientific research. After becoming a member, my perspective has broadened and my responsibilities have become heavier. I must be a good adviser and practitioner, focus on the overall development of the country and the autonomous region, address the urgent needs of the people, and actively offer suggestions and contribute wisdom and strength."
"We must shoulder this mission to live up to everyone's profound trust," Hu has always strictly demanded herself to high standards, adhered to principles and spoken out boldly in her work and duties, fulfilling the responsibilities and obligations of a member of the CPPCC Xinjiang Committee through practical actions.
