Urumqi Tianshan International Airport expands "through check-in" service to Tbilisi route

Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Chen Qiangwei) news: The Urumqi-Tbilisi route has officially launched its "international through check-in" service for inbound passengers. On February 10, flight CZ6040 landed smoothly at Urumqi Tianshan International Airport, allowing 86 passengers from Tbilisi to transfer directly to domestic flights without collecting checked luggage or rechecking in.

The "international through check-in" service allows passengers to check in and check their luggage at the starting airport without needing to collect it during transfers. The airline directly sends the luggage to the final destination. This saves passengers the trouble of carrying luggage between flights and waiting in line again, while also cutting transfer time and steps.

Previously, China Southern Airlines had already launched this service for inbound international transfers on flights from Urumqi to Bishkek (CZ6005/CZ6017), Urumqi to Almaty (CZ6075), Urumqi to Tashkent (CZ6029), and Urumqi to Moscow (CZ6002). With the new Urumqi to Tbilisi flight (CZ6040), Urumqi Tianshan International Airport now offers "one-ticket-to-destination" international transfer services on five routes with a total of six inbound flights.

Customs at Urumqi Tianshan International Airport uses methods like pre-inspection and smart image review to integrate supervision into the automatic baggage handling system. This allows inspections to be completed while luggage is in transit, enabling "unnoticed customs clearance" and "natural supervision" for smoother passenger transfers.

According to Zhang Weijie, deputy director of Urumqi Tianshan International Airport Customs, the "one-ticket-to-destination" service has become a key measure to boost the competitiveness of Urumqi as an international aviation hub. The service is now operating on five routes, including flights to Moscow, Almaty, Bishkek, and Tashkent, effectively addressing the common issues of international transfers, such as multiple procedures and long waiting times. As Urumqi expands its aviation network across Asia and Europe, the Customs will continue supporting airlines in extending this service to more routes, further improving the transfer experience for passengers.

To date, the airport in Urumqi has launched 35 international passenger routes.
