InXinjiang (111)丨An African's encounter with the Xibe ethnic group in Xinjiang

Ofoma Ifeanyi (Kay), a Nigerian content creator, made his second visit to northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on this trip, traveling to Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Altay Prefecture and other places in the region.

At the China-Kazakhstan Horgos International Border Cooperation Center, he experienced the warm integration of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang and witnessed firsthand the prosperity and vitality of local cross-border trade. At the Xibe ancient city in Qapqal Xibe Autonomous County, Kay was particularly impressed by Xibe ethnic culture. He not only learned about the unique design of traditional Xibe costumes, but also was drawn to the distinctive Xibe written language – an experience that inspired him to conduct in-depth research on Xibe writing and its education system. The strong atmosphere of harmonious coexistence among all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, as well as the unique folk rituals, filled Kay with fresh amazement and delight.

"Most of the people, when they hear about Xinjiang, they only think about the Uygur people. But it is not just about the Uygur people, there are different ethnic groups here," Kay said. His trip to Xinjiang had exceeded all expectations, giving him a more authentic understanding of the region. As a content creator, he also hopes that overseas viewers will come here in person to experience the real culture and diverse ethnic customs of China's Xinjiang. He said: "It's not important what they've heard or what they think. The most important thing is to come down to the place and experience yourself."
