China's Xinjiang gets first direct passenger air link to Germany

On June 1, China Southern Airlines launched the first direct passenger route from Urumqi to Frankfurt, Germany.

This marks the first direct international passenger air route from northwest China's Xinjiang to Germany.

The new route has eased travelers' pressure from Xinjiang to transfer through eastern cities like Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou when flying to Europe.

As of April 2026, Urumqi has opened over 30 international passenger routes. Reaching Xinjiang is now more convenient than ever.
