Tianshan Voice｜Prosperity grows from harmony, and harmony grows from unity

This marks Iain Inglis’ fourth visit to northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, but his very first time stepping foot in Tacheng Prefecture. For this journey, the British commentator traded his maps for his senses, exploring the city through three dimensions: Taste, hearing, and sight.

Hearing: The accordion dialogue

At the Tacheng Accordion Exhibition Hall, Iain didn’t just admire the instruments; he connected with a local musician who has been playing for 40 years. The universal language of music became his gateway to understanding the city’s romantic and harmonious spirit.

Taste: A fusion on a plate

From Russian-style bread to Kazak milk tea, Tacheng’s cuisine is a microcosm of cultural diversity. Iain experienced the region’s hospitality and inclusivity through its unique flavors.

Sight: The landscape of unity

Looking beyond the lens, Iain witnessed more than just a picturesque border town. He saw vibrant evidence of diverse ethnic groups living in harmony. He concluded that Tacheng’s prosperity isn’t accidental—it is the logical outcome of unity.
