As the 9th China-Eurasia Expo gets underway in Urumqi, Xinjiang, Pakistan is participating as the guest country of honor. In this episode of InXinjiang, we sit down with Pakistan's Ambassador to China, His Excellency Khalil Hashmi.
Ambassador Khalil Hashmi noted that this is his third time attending the Expo. He commended the event for debuting new pavilions on new quality productive forces, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and green technology, and expressed his appreciation to Xinjiang for granting Pakistan the guest country of honor status.

In the Ambassador's view, Xinjiang serves as a vital gateway for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. As the Corridor moves into its second phase, Xinjiang has become a key node for facilitating bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. Under the CPEC 2.0 framework, four priority areas have been identified: agriculture, mineral extraction, information and communications technology, which includes the digital economy and AI, and industrial collaboration. "We welcome Xinjiang-based enterprises to invest in Pakistan and take part in the development of its special economic zones," said Ambassador Khalil Hashmi.
Looking ahead, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi hopes that bilateral trade between Xinjiang and Gilgit-Baltistan will exceed 1 billion U.S. dollars within five years, and that total China-Pakistan trade will surpass 100 billion U.S. dollars. He also revealed that a joint concert would be held in Beijing this year and expressed his hope for more cultural and people-to-people exchanges in Xinjiang.
