InXinjiang (126)丨Malaysian diplomat: Vast potential for cooperation between China's Xinjiang and ASEAN countries

The 9th China-Eurasia Expo was recently held in Urumqi City, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Malaysia has participated in the expo for consecutive years. At this year's expo, Malaysia highlighted the development strengths of its small and medium enterprises (SMEs), showcasing high-quality products including specialty foods, health care goods, daily consumer products and technological items. The country aims to build a long-term bridge for economic and trade cooperation, unblock two-way production and sales channels, and deepen integrated collaboration between the two sides covering economy, trade, culture, tourism, education and other fields.

During the expo, Niqman Rafaee M. Sahar, Minister Counselor of Trade of the Malaysian Embassy in China, conducted on-site inspections and research, gaining first-hand experience of Xinjiang's brand-new development landscape and openness-driven vitality. From his perspective, Xinjiang has seen continuous improvements to modern infrastructure and connectivity, coupled with robust and dynamic economic growth momentum. As the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt, Xinjiang serves as a vital gateway in western China, effectively linking the overland and maritime Silk Roads and opening smooth cooperative passages connecting Central Asia, Europe and Southeast Asia. Its strategic strengths in opening up to the outside world have become increasingly prominent.

Niqman Rafaee M. Sahar extended a sincere invitation: "We hope Xinjiang will become one of Malaysia's key partners in terms of trade, economy, tourism in western China, while Malaysia also will be a gateway for Xinjiang to enter the ASEAN markets."
