Xinjiang tourism hits record highs despite sweltering summer heat

Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporters Otkur Nijat and Cai Zengle) news: During the summer travel peak, many regions across northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region are experiencing sustained high temperatures and clear, hot weather, yet tourists remain undeterred in their travel enthusiasm.

As one of Urumqi’s landmark cultural and tourist check-in spots, the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar is thronged with crowds, welcoming roughly 170,000 visitors daily. Distinctive local customs, a dazzling array of handicrafts and signature local delicacies make it a top destination for tourists to soak up the everyday vibe of Xinjiang. “The weather is sweltering, but the atmosphere here is amazing. The food and cultural souvenirs are all one-of-a-kind,” said Mr. Zhang, a tourist from Beijing.

The ancient city of Kashi has also seen a sharp surge in tourist numbers recently. Visitors from all over the country stroll along its crisscrossing lanes, tasting local specialties and experiencing authentic regional culture. To cope with the heat, the scenic area has upgraded its services down to the smallest details: extra shaded rest zones have been built; air conditioning runs all day at the tourist service center, which is stocked with first-aid kits and heatstroke prevention supplies. The newly launched station also offers services such as free boiled water, device charging and luggage storage. Volunteers stationed across the site provide directions and assistance to visitors.
