Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture is located in southeastern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The name "Bayingolin" comes from Mongolian, meaning "fertile river basin". Bayingolin accounts for one quarter of Xinjiang's total area and is the largest prefecture-level administrative region in China.

Well-connected by modern transportation and telecommunications, Bayingolin offers a wealth of tourist attractions. Visitors can explore breathtaking natural landscapes — from the Tianshan and Kunlun mountains to vast deserts, grand lakes, expansive grasslands, and the Gobi. Historical and cultural sites abound, including the Iron Gate Pass, the Loulan Ancient City Ruins, the Xikeqin Thousand-Buddha Grottoes, and the Milan ruins.
