From September 7 to 17, 2026, John Ducas, president of the Bethune Bai Qiuen Canadian Alliance, leads a delegation to northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to see firsthand the region's social progress and advances in healthcare.

During their stay in Urumqi, they visited the Urumqi Cultural Center to see the exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Urumqi Planning Exhibition Hall, and Guyuanxiang community, and also visited and exchanged views at Xinjiang Medical University. Ducas said, "I wanted to see this for myself." He added, "What I've seen with my own eyes is a region which has many different minorities, and they're treated as part of this analogy of a pomegranate living together closely."
