Tianshan Tianchi, known as "Yaochi", or the "Jade Pool", in ancient legends, is located in Fukang City, Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, some 68 kilometers away from Urumqi. Encompassing 548 square kilometers, the scenic area features a full vertical natural landscape zone, snow-capped mountains, glaciers and alpine lakes. It also carries rich cultural heritage, including the ancient myth of the Queen Mother of the West and Yaochi, as well as distinctive ethnic folk customs. The site lends itself well to sightseeing, scientific research, exploration and adventure, leisure activities and ethnic cultural experiences.
