Tokyo stocks close higher on hopes for global economic outlook

  TOKYO, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday as investor sentiment was lifted by a global rally, with solid U.S. earnings and upbeat economic data from China raising hopes for the outlook of the global economy.

  The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 298.55 points, or 1.37 percent, from Friday to close the day at 22,169.11.

  The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 22.53 points, or 1.40 percent, to finish at 1,627.93.

  All industry categories advanced to finish in positive territory, with mining, insurance and machinery-liked issues comprising those that gained the most by the close of play.
