China, ASEAN vow to deepen pragmatic cooperation in security

  BANKOK, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) pledged on Thursday to further strengthen pragmatic cooperation to safeguard regional security.

  China will unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development and the principle of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration in engaging in global governance, Wang Xiaohong, executive vice minister of the Ministry of Public Security of China, said here in Bangkok.

  While attending at the 13th ASEAN ministerial meeting on transnational crime (AMMTC) and its related meetings held in Bangkok on Nov. 26-28, Wang said, the law enforcement executives of China and ASEAN have strengthened mutual political trust in recent years, and also witnessed more effective cooperation.

  "China hopes that countries will continue to maintain close communication and coordination on major regional security issues, jointly maintain regional security; promote a new model of law enforcement cooperation and enhance cooperation effectiveness; further boost the exchanges of experiences in combating transnational crime and large-scale security activities; and do everything in our power to uphold the 'One Belt One Road' Initiative, the major projects and personnel safety in every country in this region," he said.

  He also pointed out that China called on all parties to act in the larger interest of regional peace and stability, continue to deepen pragmatic cooperation in the areas of maintaining national security and stability and combating transnational crime.

  More than 200 participants, including ministerial officials from law enforcement agencies of ASEAN countries, China, Japan and South Korea, attended the series of meetings.
