
Tianshannet news (Correspondent Que Hure): Aerial photos taken on September 13, 2020 show herdsmen drive flocks of sheep departing the Bayan Bulag grassland in Hejing County and head towards the autumn pastures at the Yanqi Basin in Yanqi Hui Autonomous County of Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Since the beginning of the September, herdsmen has started the annual autumn transfer after spending the whole spring and summer at the Bayan Bulag grassland in Hejing County of Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, and more than a million livestock began to transfer from the Bayan Bulag grassland to the autumn pastures. The livestock transfer is a unique scene and it usually starts during the first ten days of September each year at the Bayan Bulag grassland. Pastures can be classified as spring, summer, autumn and winter pastures.
The Bayan Bulag grassland is the largest mountainous meadow grassland in China, with an average altitude of 2500 meters. The grassland is doted with wetlands and swamps, rivers intertwined and climate complex. In order to ensure the safety of livestock during the transfer, the local government makes early preparations. The autumn transfer at the Bayan Bulag grassland in 2020 started from September 9 and will end around September 23, lasting about 15 days. The autumn transfer is the shortest of the four season transfers at the Bayan Bulag grassland.
