Great Achievements in Stability and Development of Xinjiang Brooks No Pompeo’s Vilification and Smear

A few days ago, U.S. former Secretary of State Pompeo falsely accused Xinjiang of committing “genocide” and “crimes against humanity” against Uygurs and other ethnic minorities, having ignored the facts of Xinjiang's development and prosperity, rules of international conventions, positive comments of international community on Xinjiang. Such of his practices has severely trampled on international law and norms governing international relations, interfered in China’s internal affairs, and hurt the feelings of people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and people of all ethnic groups strongly condemn and oppose it.

Taking in pride of “lying, cheating and stealing”, Pompeo keeps exerting pressure on others and practicing bullying every corner he goes. In his last days in office, Pompeo kept frantically attacking and smearing Xinjiang, dragging Xinjiang into a trap of human rights violation, misleading the global public opinions about China. Pompeo’s smears and lies have all been refuted, his personal fame has also been destroyed and his remarks show the world what is doomsday craziness in practicing his “lying diplomacy” to the end.

Stable and prosperous Xinjiang is the best refutation for Pompeo’s smears. In recent years, upholding the principles of rule of law, people-first and equality among all ethnic groups, Xinjiang has launched counter-terrorism and deradicalization campaigns, maintaining social stability of Xinjiang in accordance with law. We have stipulated and revised several local regulations, such as the Measures of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Implementing the Counter-terrorism Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Regulations of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Deradicalization, the Regulations of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Religious Affairs, the Regulations of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Ethnic Unity, the Regulations on the Work Concerning Spoken and Written Languages of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the Regulations of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Population and Family Planning, to ensure all works in Xinjiang under the framework of rule of law. Over the years, in response to the grave and complicated situation of frequent terrorist activities, we learned from experiences of anti-terrorism and deradicalization of international community, to provide legal weapons to contain and crack down terrorism and extremism. Upholding the principle of fighting and preventing terrorism at the same time, we have been taking aggressive action against violent terrorist crimes, and at the same time, addressing the problem at its source. No terrorist incidents occurred over the past 4 years in Xinjiang and the aspiration of all ethnic groups for peaceful and stable living has been realized. Xinjiang protects legitimate rights of labour, follows strictly the Labour Law of the People’s Republic of China, tries to create new jobs for people of various ethnic groups, guarantees workers’ rights. In according with the law, we carry out family planning policy, with robust growth of the total population of Xinjiang, of which population of ethnic minorities and Uygurs increased slightly over that of Han people in Xinjiang. We fully implement the system of regional ethnic autonomy, the rights of people of all ethnic groups to equally participate in the management of state affairs are protected by law. The customs and fine traditions of ethnic minorities are protected, developed and inherited according to law. All ethnic groups have the freedom to use and develop their own spoken and written languages, they embrace together like the pomegranate seeds. People’s right of religious belief is fully guaranteed. Their demands of conducting normal religious activities are met. We have improved the conditions of religious venues, diversified source of religious learning for believers, thus guaranteed the inheritance of Islam in an orderly manner.

Facts speak louder than words and people have a sense of natural justice. Under the strong leadership of CPC, unprecedented achievements have been made in social economic development and livelihood improvement of Xinjiang, people of all ethnic groups now have growing sense of fulfillment, happiness and security. Economic development is on the rise, infrastructure has been bettering, Xinjiang has been promoted as a core zone for silk road economic belt. From 2014 to 2019, the gross domestic product in Xinjiang grew at an average annual rate of 7.2% from 9195.9 billion yuan to 13597.1 billion yuan. The general public budget revenue has increased from 128.23 billion yuan to 157.76 billion with an annual growth rate of 5.7%. 200 million overseas and domestic visitors came to Xinjiang in 2019. From 2014 to 2019, the per capita disposable income of Xinjiang residents grew at an average of annual rate of 9.1%. 1.69 million new safe houses have been built up in rural areas, and 1.56 million affordable apartments in urban areas in which more than 10 million people now live with happiness. The basic public service level has been improved continuously with social insurance system completed day by day. 99.7% of residents has been covered by basic medical insurance, and free health examination has been offered to all Xinjiang residents. In all healthcare centers at townships and clinics at villages have been established with unified national standards. We have eliminated poverty in 3,666 poverty-stricken villages and 32 towns, lifted 3.0649 million of people out of poverty, with the complete realization of “two no worries and three guarantees”, i.e. no worries on food and clothing and guarantees in having access to compulsory nine-year education, basic medical care and safe housing; decisive victory against poverty has been achieved. Since December, 2018, more than 1200 diplomats, journalists and representatives of religious communities of over 100 countries have visited Xinjiang, witnessing ethnic unity and prosperity. Most of the visitors have made positive and objective news reports and comments, which were praised by many countries and the fair-minded in the world.

No lies and smears can blacken the fact that Xinjiang’s human rights issues have progressed and nothing can stop ethnic unity and solidarity in Xinjiang, and nothing can disturb the prospect of development and prosperity. Pompeo along with his smears will fail in fooling the world and slandering China, will definitely be dumped into history.
